Did you know there are more fake flamingos in the world than real ones? Or that it rains diamonds on Saturn and that there is a piano made entirely from cats?
Ten-year-old Nolan learned these facts from the guidebook his mother gave him, The Big Book of Everything and Anything, but these facts alone won’t help him where he’s going. After falling down a well, he’s transported into Mirth, a magical land threatened by “The Dolor”, a looming force that leaves all it touches hollow and empty.
Armed with The Big Book of Everything and Anything, Nolan must journey across a land both fierce and friendly to reach the light queen in order to return home. All that prevents his way is "The Dolor"; the darkness that brings forth the feelings Nolan tries to push 'way, way back.' He soon discovers that certain things—like feelings, and trust, and acceptance—can’t be held back for long and that the important things in life aren't learned from a guidebook.
